WE ARE ARTISTS!

WE ARE AUTHORS!
We have been writing every day! We get started right away, stay in one spot, work on writing the whole time, and are building our writing stamina. We have been learning that good writers:
1.  Write for a purpose
2.  Write for an audience
3.  Use Authors as mentors
4.  Include detail, description, and strong feelings
5.  Reread writing to check if it makes sense
October and November writing has focused on writing personal narratives.  After reading many Toothy Tales by our favorite authors, we decided to write our own!

WELCOME TO GRADE 2!

Ms. Jordan's Grade 2 Classroom Blog!
Hello Everyone!

Welcome to a new and exciting school year!  My name
is Erika Jordan and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher.  I would also like to welcome Barb Canons and Orisha Braun our educational assistants and Sarah Martens, our University of Winnipeg teacher candidate.

This blog will be a place where the kids and I let you know about our learning, our investigations and our questions about the world.  The 2J blog will also be handy for checking dates and times of up coming events.  In addition, it will be a great place to find links to educational games and websites. Oh and another thing, we'll show off some of our Grade 2 quality work too!

Check back often for updates!
(Please note that full names and any other personal information will not be published on our blog.)

JOURNEY TO CHURCHILL!

Did you know that we are building our learning stamina in EVERY subject???

We are...

...using our mental math strategies to learn our addition and subtraction facts 1-18 JUST LIKE THAT!!!  We are practicing our facts daily at school and in the evenings on the wiki and with parents!
...solving problems with strategies from our math toolbox
...touring the town of  Churchill and comparing and contrasting our community with theirs
...researching polar bears and gathering information for our non-fiction class book
...discovering the properties of solids, liquids, and gases
...completing our Printing Power program and checking to see if our letters and numbers are Grade 2 quality!
...writing daily to make sure our work LOOKS right, SOUNDS right, and MAKES SENSE!
...becoming VORACIOUS non-fiction readers!
...collecting facts by reading, re-reading, and stopping to put important information into our own words
...learning our Kids in the Know safety strategies such as BUDDY SYSTEM, TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, CODE WORDS and WHEN ASKED TO GO AND YOUR PARENTS DON'T KNOW, SHOUT NO!
Yes indeed, we are doing all this and more because that's THE KIND OF LEARNERS WE ARE!

BE PROUD 2J!
